Tim Taylor specializes in international commercial and investment arbitration as well as complex multi-jurisdictional litigation, cross-border insolvencies, regulatory investigations and asset tracing.
He represents clients in international arbitrations governed by the rules of leading arbitration institutions and appears before the High Court in London, the DIFC Courts, ADGM Courts and the courts of the British Virgin Islands.
Tim has been appointed as arbitrator by the LCIA and the ICC, and represented clients as advocate or advised on arbitrations in numerous venues including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Iran as well as several jurisdictions in Africa and Asia. In addition he acts as mediator in a range of disputes.
His experience includes:
- Representing major Dubai government-owned developer in unprecedented proceedings against the Dubai International Arbitration Centre to invalidate its appointment of a tribunal and seek an anti-arbitration injunction.
- Defeating committal application for several respondents in the leading case on the DIFC Courts’ contempt of court powers, leading to the modifications of the DIFC Courts’ prescribed form of penal notice and worldwide freezing orders.
- Representing one of the largest independent brokerage firms in the United States in DIFC Court proceedings concerning issues in relation to confidentiality, restrictive covenants and poaching of employees and clients.
- Defeating AED 2.4 billion claim by major UAE construction company against Dubai government-owned developer in a DIAC arbitration.
Over his career he worked at such law firms as Herbert Smith & Co (London), SJ Berwin (London), King & Wood Mallesons (Dubai), Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss PLLC (Dubai).
Since 2011 Tim has been appointed Queen’s Counsel.
Tim has been recognized as a leader in international arbitration, mediation and asset tracing in the Legal 500, Who’s Who Legal, and Chambers Global.
He graduated from Oxford University.
