The Law Faculty of the Higher School of Economics (HSE), a leader for business education in Russia and abroad, announces the opening of EPAM' foundation department.
Foundation departments are ran as partnerships between the university and leading market players. The aim of these departments is to ensure the highest standards of education, as well as incorporate best business practices. This in turn serves two objectives - education that is better suited to today’s socio-economic needs, and a graduate skillset that is truly demanded by prospective employers.
Such a partnership with Russia’s leading law firm, will allow law students to directly engage with experienced legal professionals commended by peers in the Russian and foreign markets. As a result, the next generation of lawyers will be able to consolidate theoretical knowledge through practice and effectively apply skills required in the real legal world.
“The success of our firm is based on the deep knowledge of the law combined with an understanding of the practical issues faced by our clients. Whilst the Higher School of Economics prepares future business elites in accordance with the highest international standards of education, our department will aim to help students evaluate legal issues through the lens of practical business needs, and give them an understanding of what is at the core of the business’ decision making process. This will make students even more attractive to prospective employers. Dennis Arkhipov, a brilliant disputes lawyer, Ph.D. in Law, and co-head of EPAM’ Litigation practice, will lead this important initiative, having had his candidacy approved by the HSE Academic Council,” said Dimitry Afanasiev, Chairman of EPAM.
“Today, when information comes at us at an unprecedented pace, textbook knowledge alone is not enough. To find truly unique solutions, it is crucial to be able to structure and analyse the information received - this distinguishes a simple lawyer from a true professional," noted Dennis Arkhipov. -“It is a great honour to work alongside a leading Russian university. The new department is aimed at ensuring that in addition to acquiring high-quality knowledge, students learn to practically apply their skills, interacting directly with our Russian and English legal experts. The unique practical expertise that our lawyers boast will become an invaluable resource for the new generation of professionals,” Arkhipov added.
Classes at the new department will be held in the format of short courses and master classes on various topics. At the end of each academic year, a large-scale student competition, ran in the form of a mock trial, will be held. Upon completion of the course, successful students will be offered an internship at EPAM.
