With the support of EPAM Law, DIAC has obtained the status of a Permanent Arbitration Institution (PAI) in the Russian Federation

EPAM Law provided comprehensive support to the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) throughout the process of obtaining this status, which is of fundamental importance for the activities of international arbitration institutions operating in Russia.

DIAC is the largest alternative dispute resolution center in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region. For more than 30 years, the Centre has been providing commercial dispute resolution services to parties conducting business both within the region and internationally. DIAC is also included in the Global Arbitration Review “White List” in the Guide to Arbitration in the Middle East and Africa (2024).

The PAI status enables DIAC to administer international commercial disputes seated in the Russian Federation, as well as certain categories of corporate disputes involving Russian companies. Obtaining this status significantly enhances DIAC’s attractiveness for Russian legal entities and individuals as a forum for resolving disputes with foreign counterparties, while also reducing the risks associated with the recognition and enforcement of DIAC arbitral awards by Russian state courts.

Commenting on this achievement, Vladimir Talanov, Partner at EPAM Law, stated: “The granting of Permanent Arbitration Institution status to the Dubai International Arbitration Centre in Russia is an important and landmark development. This decision not only expands the range of reliable and neutral arbitration venues available to businesses, but also contributes to the further strengthening of legal and economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates. We firmly believe that DIAC’s recognition in Russia will facilitate the development of cross-border business relations and enhance mutual trust between the business communities of our two countries”.

As a PAI, DIAC becomes the first arbitral institution from the UAE and the wider region to receive such formal recognition. This important milestone demonstrates international confidence in DIAC and supports its continued institutional growth” said Jehad Kazim, DIAC’s Executive Director.

Support to DIAC was provided by EPAM Law International Arbitration and Litigation team led by Partner Vladimir Talanov, with the participation of Senior Associate Nikita Sinitsin and Paralegal Polina Trofimova.
