On March 23rd, 2022, the Moscow City Court overturned the verdict of the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow, which had convicted the head of the financial department of a large foreign company for causing serious bodily harm and sentenced the client to 1.5 years in prison to be served in a corrective labor colony.
The client turned to the lawyers of the white collar crime practice at EPAM during the appeal’s stage after the initial verdict.
The Moscow City Court agreed with the arguments of the appeal on the grounds of numerous procedural violations committed at the preliminary investigation stage and in the court of first instance; as a result, it overturned the verdict and released the client from custody in the courtroom.
The criminal case was returned to the prosecutor for further elimination of the identified violations.
