EPAM will act as the administrator in the national rounds of the international student competition named Phillip Jessup 2014 in Belarus
As part of our initiative to support the development of legal education EPAM, for the fifth time in a row, has been officially registered as the National Administrator of 2014 Phillip Jessup Moot Court Competition for Belarus, administered by the International Law Students Association (ILSA). The Belarusian National Rounds of the Competition will be held in Minsk on February 7 - 8, 2014.
"It's hard to overestimate the importance of mock trials for law students. The debate process in the game trial helps to develop the skills of judicial rhetoric, teaches future lawyers to react quickly and take their position on the case, and given the fact that the process is in English, it makes the task even more difficult. We are happy to give Belarusian teams a chance to participate in the national round of the prestigious competition and thus the winning team has the opportunity to participate in international rounds in the U.S." - says Dennis Turovets, Managing Partner of the Firm’s Minsk office.
Administered globally by ILSA, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 550 law schools in more than 80 countries. The contest has been held annually since 1959.
The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Law students compete with each other introducing procedural documents and preparing oral presentations on topical issues of public international law in the context of a hypothetical interstate dispute.
The main topic of Contest 2014 will be the development and conservation of marine resources, issues of criminal jurisdiction and rights associated with the rescue at sea.
Three teams participate in the Belarusian National Rounds this year. The winning team of the National Rounds will take part in the International Rounds taking place in March 2014 in Washington, D.C. (USA).
Many prominent legal experts from Belarus, Hungary, Brazil, Spain, Latvia and India will act as judges in oral and written rounds of the competition.
Additional information about the competition may be obtained at ILSA official website or from the national round coordinator of Jessup Cup Nataliya Kaliuta at Nataliya_kaliuta@epam.by.
