Alexander Frenkel represents clients in complex commercial disputes before Russian courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

He also specialises in corporate and bankruptcy disputes, advising on secondary liability risks.

His key works highlights:

  • Defending a Surgutneftegaz subsidiary in actions seeking to challenge dealings and hold it liable in bankruptcy proceedings involving a fuel card operator for more than RUB 28 billion, including before the Russian Supreme Court (Dispute of the Year according to Kommersant, 2023).
  • Representing a major agricultural group before the Chamber for Economic Disputes at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation in a claim seeking to invalidate bankruptcy auctions, where the client purchased assets worth over RUB 3 billion.
  • Defending a foreign shareholder of a Russian bank in a dispute over corporate liability exceeding RUB 7 billion.
  • Representing a financial organisation in a precedent-setting subsidiary liability action brought against a shadow beneficiary of a bank in a bankruptcy case involving over RUB 3 billion.
  • Invalidating additional customs charges on dental supplies imported to Russia by a major South Korean group, amounting to over RUB 500 million.
  • Defending a client in a secondary liability action exceeding RUB 5 billion brought by the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA); following the trial, the DIA’s claims against the client were dismissed.
  • Representing a specialised developer in tenancy disputes with the Federal Agency for State Property Management (Rosimushchestvo) totalling over RUB 1 billion.
  • Defending a director of a major pharmaceutical distributor in a secondary liability action exceeding RUB 3 billion.

Prior to joining the Firm in 2018, Alexander interned and worked at several Russian law firms.

He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Kutafin Moscow State Law University and his research instructor’s degree from The Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation. He has authored a number of research articles and academic papers on corporate law and bankruptcy matters.

Alexander is admitted to the Moscow Bar Association.
