Maya has has over fifteen years of extensive experience inin defending the interests of leading Russian and international companies in various legal disputes, including those related to real estate and construction, corporate governance and conflicts, restructuring and bankruptcy as well as in the banking and financial sectors. Her client portfolio includes prominent national industrial enterprises, developers, banks, pharmaceutical companies and restaurant holdings.
Maya's Key Projects include:
- Representing a Russian investment company in bankruptcy proceedings involving a major retailer with total claims exceeding RUB 8 billion.
- Representing the interests of the Pulkovo Airport operator ("Air Gateway of the Northern Capital") in a high-profile environmental dispute in north-western Russia, recognised as the “Dispute of the Year 2021” by Kommersant Publishing House.
- Representing the interests of a leading Russian manufacturer of cargo-lifting equipment in a precedent-setting dispute with a German company over monetary claims under a contract, despite the existence of a prorogation agreement designating the Dresden Court (Germany) as the forum for dispute resolution.
- Representing Russia's largest restaurant holding in a dispute over the invalidation and subsequent consequences of a franchise acquisition deal involving KFC businesses in the Krasnodar region and Adygea. With a total value exceeding RUB 1.6 bn, the case was recognised as the “Dispute of the Year 2023” by Kommersant Publishing House.
- An unprecedented victory in a dispute involving the challenge of a transaction and the recovery of nearly half a billion roubles from a client, one of Russia’s largest retailers. Despite the opposing position of the Federal Tax Service (FTS), Maya and the team successfully convinced the court of the illegitimacy of the opponent's claims, setting a positive precedent for Russian companies in potential disputes with counterparties.
- Representing the interests of a foreign company — a global leader in the production of equipment for outfitting ships. Together with other attorneys from the Firm, she represented the client's interests in a dispute arising from a construction contract, in which a claim was filed against the client for the recovery of a substantial sum of money. As a result of negotiations with the counterparty, the parties reached an agreement for the full settlement of mutual claims without any monetary recovery from the client.
- Representing a major foreign bank in bankruptcy proceedings concerning a leading company in southern Russia.
- Representing the interests of a reputable European company specialising in the training and preparation of professional pilots. Maya actively participated in legal proceedings against a counterparty related to the recovery of outstanding debts.
- Representing a construction corporation in disputes over compensation for multimillion-dollar losses resulting from a fire.
- Representing the client's interests in a series of disputes related to the dissolution of marriage between the client and their former spouse, the determination of visitation arrangements with their minor child and the amount of child support.
- Advising a client on critical legal issues related to business operations.
Maya graduated from the Faculty of Law at Saint Petersburg State University and the Faculty of Economics at the Russian State University of Trade and Economics. She successfully integrates her knowledge of law and finance to address her clients’ challenges.
Maya is actively involved in mentorship, collaborating with the law faculties of leading universities in Saint Petersburg. She regularly conducts bespoke masterclasses for students on the secrets of effective courtroom advocacy, preparation for court hearings, current trends in dispute resolution and more. Maya also participates as a speaker in conferences and events addressing pressing legal issues and challenges.
The leading Russian legal ranking Pravo-300 recommends Maya in the areas of arbitration, bankruptcy, real estate and construction. In 2021 and 2023, cases in which Maya played an active role were recognised as the "Dispute of the Year" by Kommersant Publishing House.
Maya is a member of the Saint Petersburg Bar Association. She has been awarded a commendation by the Bar Association for her outstanding achievements in professional practice.
