Igor Serebryakov advises and represents clients in cases before foreign and Russian courts, as well as in cross-border litigation coordination matters. He is experienced in participating in and coordinating litigation in Russia, the EU, the UK, Nigeria, and Central Asian countries, as well as in international commercial arbitration.
Igor specialises in commercial and corporate disputes, copyright disputes and bankruptcy cases. He is also experienced in employment disputes, advising on maritime and transport law, real estate and inheritance matters, civil claims in criminal proceedings and cross-border economic disputes.
His experience includes:
- Advising OJSC Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet, the largest fishing enterprise in Northern Russia, in relation to litigation in Spain and Namibia concerning the wrongful seizure of Russian maritime vessels.
- Representing a Russian national in connection with litigation in Spain.
- Representing the creditors' committee in the arbitration court case regarding the bankruptcy of Yugraneft.
- Representing Russian Railways in numerous court cases.
- Representing a scrap metal recycling company in challenging the decision of the customs authorities to adjust the value of goods declared by the client.
- Representing a private individual in a court case regarding the recognition of ownership of a flat in which the client resides, while contesting another court decision that acknowledged ownership of the flat by another individual.
- Representing Russian companies and individuals in relation to litigation in Central Asia.
- Represented Russian companies and individuals in a number of European countries.
Prior to joining the firm in 2002, Igor was lead legal counsel for a major Russian bank, a legal department expert for a major national audit and consulting group, and chief lawyer of the National Timber Company, where he was involved in the creation of a vertically integrated holding company, the acquisition of assets and participation in bankruptcy cases of counterparties.
Igor has been involved in legislative activities, in particular in the preparation of the Precious Metals Law. He is co-author of the book "Actual Problems of Civil Law", published in 1998 by Statut, and has contributed a number of articles on legal topics to Russian and foreign magazines.
He has received acknowledgments from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 1995, Igor graduated cum laude from the Economics and Law Faculty of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, and in 1997 he obtained a Master of Laws degree (cum laude) from the same University and a Master of Private Law from the Russian School of Private Law. In 1999, he obtained an LL.M. degree in International Business Law at the Royal Leiden University (the Netherlands). He also has a degree in Spanish translation from the University of Salamanca (Spain).
Igor is fluent in English and Spanish.
Igor is a member of the Moscow Bar Association.
